Township of Dromana
Nestled in the valley between the twin peaks of Arthurs Seat and Mount Martha. Housing development in Dromana has crept up its vegetated hillside during recent years, providing stunning views of Port Phillip Bay from many of the streets.
The establishment of Dromana Pier during the 1870s encouraged commercial development and the town assumed a more recreational function, with visitors arriving from Melbourne by steam ship. Since the 1940s its popularity has attracted legions of foreshore campers each year between November and Easter. The hub of the town is a functional shopping centre located along Pt Nepean Road opposite the pier. Well kept foreshore lawns provide picnic shelters and playgrounds, while the long sweep of beach between Anthony's Nose and Safety Beach is a magnet for summer daytrippers.
