Township of Red Hill

The twin towns of Red Hill and Red Hill South blend together at the high points of the Peninsula to form the nucleus of the burgeoning wine growing area.

The area is also known for its range of quality galleries, restaurants and Victoria's oldest community market. Despite its residential growth and popularity during recent years, its rural traditions and country atmosphere are still most evident, especially through a number of quality events. First settled in 1862, the district became best known as an area of extensive orcharding, including apples, pears, chestnuts and berries. The railway came in 1921, but closed in 1954. Limited retail development has occurred in both Red Hill and Red Hill South, the latter being the district's administrative centre. The quiet rural roads in and around Red Hill provide some of the region's most scenic views.
