Township of Crib Point
Crib Point would have remained a tiny Westernport farming village if not for the arrival of the railway in 1889 and the selection of Hanns Inlet in 1911 for the site of HMAS Cerberus, now the Royal Australian Navy's largest and major training facility.
Construction of the 1600 hectare site began in 1913 and was officially opened in 1920. BP established a two berth port jetty in the vicinity in 1963, but it closed in 1983. The town's nearby beaches, Jacks Beach and Woolleys Beach provide the characteristic Westernport beach experience -- quiet and largely unspoiled.
